Get the inside scoop on us and our products!

Scoopuccino's started out as a "small" ice cream and espresso shop named “Scoops”.  Our original concept was to not only offer a large variety of ice cream and custom made ice cream cakes, but also to provide drive-thru gourmet coffee and espresso drinks.  Opened in August 2003, we quickly grew out of the little building and decided it was time for an EXPANSION! There was so much more we wanted to do – make homemade ice cream, for one thing, and to introduce the unique delights of Italian Gelato and Sorbet to our area.  We also wanted to provide an in-house bakery to the community to bring back the homemade goodness of the long-forgotten ‘neighborhood bakeries’. In order to bring our customers these and more options, and better service, we built our current building in spring 2005 and opened July 1, 2005 – changing our name from “Scoops” to “Scoopuccino’s” - an expanded name to reflect our expanded business!

Now with a much larger kitchen and dining area, we can offer a broader array of goodies and services to you! With a complete industrial sized kitchen and the tools needed, we emphasize the lost art of homemade goods, made right from scratch.  In our bakery, we are currently baking our own bread, scratch-made old-fashioned donuts made daily, and a variety of made to order baked goods.  We also make our own hard ice cream, Gelato, Sorbet, and Italian Ice.  Our kitchen serves complete breakfast and lunch menus seven days a week – again, providing made-to-order high-quality wholesome foods including whole-grain all-natural breads made from local Carriage House Bakery, homemade soups and salads, several scratch salad dressings, and we make our own home fries and French fries from freshly cut potatoes (no carcinogenic frozen fries here!).  We often throw in a few of our old family recipes here and there, like our Italian Fried Greens, Pizze Fritte, and Poutine,   At our espresso bar, we still provide Italian Espresso, a huge selection of flavored Lattes, Cappuccinos, and Frappuccinos, a lovely variety of teas, gourmet coffee, and are starting to explore roasting our own coffee in-house, We make our own sodas, egg creams, ice cream sodas, and create a plethora of both interesting and the usual smoothies and plan to venture into protein and health drinks. Who knows what we’ll try next!

We strive to invoke a variety of moods with the atmosphere we create in our new shop –one which is light and airy, and a separate area for warmth, repose and conversation (our “Coffee Bar & Lounge”).  We also have a grand veranda (okay, it’s our ‘front porch’!) for comfortable seating outside in the summer, and picnic tables on the lawn. Our guests are served in a number of ways – drive-thru, walkup windows, counter service, or seated service.

In a hurry? We have a couple suggestions:  call ahead so we can begin your order before you arrive to be seated or pick up your pre-ordered items through the drive-thru. If ordering food and planning to go through the drive thru, we recommend you call at least 10-15 minutes ahead – or, we have a parking area for drive-thru waiting as we process your order with the other orders in line.  We are proud to provide fresh, high quality food made to order – if you prefer fast food, McDonald’s is right next door, Burger King and Arby’s are right across the street!

Stop in to taste our newest creations. If we don't have what you want on our menu, just tell us and we will be delighted to try something new for you.

OUR PRODUCTS

The Story about Scoopuccino’s Gelato

Our Gelato is quite different from regular ice cream.  It is made with all natural ingredients which are imported from Italy, contains less air, is more intensely flavored, is less firmly frozen and has a creamier, silkier texture than hard ice cream, is made in smaller batches on a daily basis, thereby is fresher, and best of all… is much lower in fat (3-4% butterfat).  In Europe, Gelato is not considered a fast food or a snack, but a complete meal of all the fundamental nutrients.  It is often chosen as a refreshing lunch or light dinner.  So, take a break and enjoy some Gelato—for your health!

“Drip” or, “Brewed” Coffee

Why pay $1.17 for  a 10-oz cup of coffee made from mass batch-roasted beans?! Our beans are micro-roasted and freshly ground, and our prices lack the overhead costs and mark-ups of big coffee chains. We use whole-bean Machristay coffee, created by an Albany-based coffee company which teamed with a New Hampshire roaster to import and micro-roast varietal coffees in small batches, and create their own robust blends.  Our Fair-Trade and Organic blends are by Java Tree.  Our Decaf is naturally decaffeinated, without formaldehyde. On occasion we will carry 100% Kona coffee shipped from Hawaii directly from a small family farm who raised, harvested and roasted the beans.

Espresso

Espresso is a strong, intense ’shot’ (1 1/2 ounce) of coffee.  It is ground finer than brewed coffee, then tamped, or compressed, to reduce the amount of air pockets before hot water is forced through it.  The tighter the compression, the longer the water is held in the grounds, thus extracting more flavor from the coffee grounds, making it taste stronger.  It is most commonly drunk straight, or mixed with steamed milk (“Caffé  Latte”), or foamed milk (“Cappuccino”).

Espresso Shot

The Italians take frequent short breaks during their day to drink Espresso.  Just a few brief, intense, flavorful sips invigorate the senses.  There are three layers formed by an espresso shot:  at the bottom lies the heart which holds its dark, intense flavor, the middle holds its body, and the foamy, aromatic crema on top.  Espresso shots should be enjoyed in just a few sips immediately after brewing.

Espresso Ristretto

Also known as “short-pull”, this is made with less hot water, thereby extracting only the highest concentration of the grounds, kicking up the intensity a notch!

Espresso Macchiato

Espresso shot with a “Macchiato” (“mark” in Italian) or, splash of foamed milk.

More than everything you ever wanted to know about Ice Cream...

Ice Cream For a frozen treat to be called “ice cream”, whether hard or soft, it must have at least 10% butterfat before adding flavor, and must weigh at least 4.5 lbs. to the gallon.  Scoopuccino’s soft ice cream is 10% butterfat.

Reduced Fat Ice Cream has at least 25% less total fat than ice cream. At Scoopuccino’s we carry up to 4 flavors of Reduced Fat/No Added Sugar Hershey’s Hard Ice Cream.

Nonfat Ice Cream has less than 0.5 grams total fat per 4oz serving.

Frozen Custard or French Ice Cream has 10% butterfat before adding flavor, with at least 1.4% egg yolk solids, it is denser (10-15% air) and creamier than ice cream. Scoopuccino’s makes some hard ice creams with a custard base, and we occasionally will carry soft Frozen Custard.

Gelato has 0% to 4% butterfat, contains less air (10% - 15%), and has more intense , natural flavors than ice cream.

Sherbet has between 1%-2% butterfat, 15-20% air, and slightly higher sugar content than ice cream.

Sorbet similar to sherbet but w/no dairy so is 0% butterfat.

Italian Ice is similar to sorbet, contains no dairy, has 0% butterfat, but is made from ice and real fruit  The consistency is much smoother than a snow cone or shaved ice.

Grades of Hard Ice Cream:

Regular Ice Cream (common store variety hard ice cream) Average quality of ingredients, 50% air content, approximately 12% butterfat.

Premium Ice Cream (some Bryers, Friendly’s, etc) higher quality and quantity of ingredients, 35%-45% air content, 12%-14% butterfat.  This is typical of our Hershey Hard Ice Cream varieties.

Gourmet Ice Cream (Ben & Jerry’s or Haagen Daas) superior quality and quantity of ingredients, 12%-20% air content, 12%-18% butterfat.

Homemade Hard Ice Cream superior quality and quantity of ingredients, 12% air content, and is much fresher.  Scoopuccino’s uses 14%-16% butterfat in our hard ice cream

At Scoopuccino’s, we make Homemade Gelato, Sorbet, and Hard Ice Cream.  Occasionally, we make Italian Ice and Sherbet.
